SUMMARY

Image result for the bad beginningThis book starts off with 3 children (the Baudelaires) receiving some very horrible news that their parents have just perished in a terrible fire that has also destroyed their beautiful mansion. These children, who are now orphans, have temporarily been taken under the care of a banker called Mr Poe, who is in charge of their enormous fortune. They eventually get the news that they are moving in with their new guardian Count Olaf. As they move in, different problems start to arise.

IS IT ANY GOOD

I really enjoyed this story because of the witty humor it provided. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who has a love for adventure stories and also mystery. The series lead up to thirteen books in total which all have a new scenario each time.

THOUGHTS ON THE BOOK

This is a very clever, funny, entertaining, imaginative, and educational series. The book has insights into grief and children’s resilience which in my opinion, is something that adds more character and interesting vibes to the story.  The narrator of the book uses plenty of difficult words, but he also takes the trouble to explain their meaning as he goes along. The children have very sympathetic characters; Violet likes inventing things, Klaus likes reading, and little Sonny likes picture books and biting things.

Cool review, Phoebe! Your summary really makes me want to read the book, which is a big thing for me because I’m not particularly interested in adventure books. I think there is also a Netflix series based on this novel. If you read more of the books from this series, you should totally make more reviews for them. Thanks for making me aware of this book; I will be adding this to my reading list!
