New year, new season, same teammates. Robert F. Kennedy Basketball season started on November 27, 2017. As season started, the basketball girls were excited yet nervous to compete against everyone in their division. The previous year they didn’t do as great since they were barely getting the feel of playing with one another and creating team chemistry. Because of their losing streak the previous season, they knew that they needed to do better this time around. They were aware that if they wanted to make playoffs this season, they had to work hard and prove to everyone that they weren’t as bad as they thought. The girls in the team were judged and underestimated by many teams because of last season, but that only motivated them to practice harder to improve and do better.

Although this year they did bad during preseason, the girls did not let that stop them from doing amazing during their season. Once season started they unexpectedly began to have a winning streak. Varsity girls won six games in a row! Wow, what a comeback right? They were all excited about their winning streaks until they lost their first game in a long time against Roybal High School. Unfortunately, after losing to Roybal High School, their winning streak was broken and they lost two more games afterwards, against Belmont High School and Miguel Contreras High School. They did not let this bring them down, the girls got back on track and won their games against Mendez High School and Bernstein High School leading them to still being number one in league.

This year’s season is soon coming to an end and from my own point of view, this year the girls have improved tremendously from last year.  All the time spent in the gym practicing has really paid off, as currently they have only lost 3 games in league and are on track for 1st place. Currently, they are about to face Hollywood High School. If they win, they’re in it for playoffs. If they lose, then they will no longer have an opportunity to be in playoffs. The first time they played against Hollywood this year, the RFK girls won, therefore I strongly believe that they will beat Hollywood and make it to playoffs this season!

The girls did a great job playing season. Also being undefeated and being number 1 in their league is incredible. The girls have a great team game and communication in court.

I extremely liked this article. It illustrated all the obstacles we went through and how much we wanted to win League. I love the photos that were featured because they show how close we’ve grown as a team. I’m a senior so I am leaving this wonderful team behind, but I wish teh next generation all the best. Please keep supporting the Girls Basketball Team!!!
