On March 1, 2018, ASGL students participated in BMUN 66 for the second year in a row.

This was my second time at BMUN, and my last Model UN conference of my high school career. My experience for BMUN 66 was definitely different from last year. I didn’t have a partner so I felt uncomfortable at first. However, I got used to it pretty quickly.

This year, I was in the World Health Organization as a delegate for Portugal. It’s a committee that I personally enjoy because of my interest in the medical field. Since I was alone, I did my own research for the acceleration of global disease eradication and the rehabilitation of health structures in conflict affected zones. Before this committee, I didn’t really understand the impact social and cultural barriers played on either topic. It is because of this that I feel that I’ve expanded a bit more in Model UN compared to previous conferences. Other than that I had fun with this year’s BMUNers, the group was really funny and there were a lot of memorable moments.

In the end, I feel like BMUN 66 went by too fast. I have been looking forward to this trip for so long, and now it’s already over. I feel somewhat sad that this was my last Model UN conference, but I’m also happy that I’ve been able to be apart of something like this for the past two years. I haven’t been in this class for long, but it was a great experience for me. I’ve learned a lot about a myriad of topics that I had little to no knowledge in. Moving forward, I hope to continue that as I keep growing as an individual. If I were to offer any sort of advice from this, it would be to try something like Model UN. It may seem intimidating or boring at first, but it’s really not. The opportunities and memories you make along the way are worthwhile.
