ICON, a construction technology company, has developed a method for printing a single-story house out of cement in 12 to 24 hours. They have decided to team up with New Story, a nonprofit that is vested in international housing solutions, to create a community of 100 houses for residents in El Salvador by next year.

The house is printed by the Vulcan printer at the cost of $10,000 US Dollars and ICON is planning to bring it down to $4,000. This house would be around 650 square feet and contain a bedroom, bathroom, living room and a curved porch.  Using cement as a common material will prove the sturdiness of the home. One of ICON’s three founders, Jason Ballard, will try the model as an office to test it’s practical use. After ICON completes their material testing and tweaking of the design, they will move the printer to El Salvador to start the construction. This idea can be the solution for homeless issues and possibly be used in creating homes or stations in other planets.
