“Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it”, it seems that this saying is still very true in this day in age just like the Poor People’s Campaign. What is the Poor People’s Campaign, you may be asking yourself, well the Poor People’s campaign is a movement that happened in 1968 and was led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The campaign was for people of poor and diverse background to stand up in protest for their right to have fair economic and human rights.

Now 50 years later yet another movement has to be made for poor people to stand up and fight for and that movement is the same as the 1968 movement. Now people and standing up and fighting for what they believe just like they did 50 years ago. The times may be different but the mission is the still the same and that is to be treated fairly and fix this injustice. Currently they are trying to fix a broken system where the middle class 20% make 9 times more then the lower class 20%. Injustices like this are what this movement is trying fix so that 50 years from now will be much more open minded than today.

Yes, I have definitely heard of this movement and it’s nice to see it being covered on the school’s newspaper as it raises awareness to the readers of the new religious/political movement the corporate media hardly talks about, the religious left. I first read it on the Guardian
    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/dec/16/poverty-america-moral-outrage-nation.

I have to admit the religious values the conservatives of this country attempt to exhibit through the Republican Party aren’t as religious, religiously speaking as that of the religious left. While the religious right is very preoccupied with preventing women from aborting through closing down safe abortion clinics (safer vs. attempting to abort a baby oneself), even if the women were raped or aborting extremely early on, the purposely rigged socioeconomic systems aborts working families and individuals to have a true chance to see their fruits of their labor.

Because of the rigged socioeconomic system, many are turning to despair, living paycheck to paycheck with not even a few hundred dollars saved for an emergency expense and when it’s time for their kids or themselves to go to college or an accident occurs out of nowhere, they plunge into lifelong debt, homelessness or making the choice between food and the mortgage and never climb the socioeconomic ladder hard work has always promised. Poverty is definitely a worldwide scandal that affects all of humanity, but yet the media overlooks and overcasts on Trump’s Stormy Daniels affair (and although it’s very inappropriate and Trump himself is very inappropriate as a human being), poverty is a scandal that definitely needs more coverage out here in the media. Wonderful report Henry.
