A horrendous event took place in Chinatown, and two elderly Asian men in their 60s became victims to it. Joe Hoe Young “Tony” and Kim Kong Yun were stabbed to death by a mysterious man.

It was suspected that the whole area near the scene of the crime was covered for inspection. The killer in the end, however, seems to have gotten away. According to the reporters, no weapons or evidences were found, and now investigators are questioning the witnesses to identify the killer. The outlook of the investigation is still ongoing (9 months after the event took place).  According to the Times Homicide Report database, these deaths mark the second and the third homicides of the usually peaceful Chinatown in the last twelve months.

Apparently the second victim had attempted to prevent the stabbings by coming in between the culprit and his friend. Nonetheless, the second murder still occurred. It is more than believable that most of the witnesses were traumatized by this event. However, none of their statements regarding the scene have been released.

A lot of the witnesses were traumatized by this sudden event, according to some reports. One specific scene that the witnesses were especially shook by was when the second victim, Kim Kong Yun, tried to prevent the suspect from stabbing him, however still failed to protect himself, ultimately.

Such a horrific case can leave a huge impression to those in the community, especially the youth, and some students were interviewed about this tragic event about their thoughts and opinions on the matter:

Anahi from Robert F. Kennedy Community Schools said, “I feel that there should be more safety within our community, since this random person just came up and did as he pleased which ended with people getting injured.”

An eleventh grade student, Grecia, similarly agreed and spoke : “I think it’s pretty ridiculous. I mean, did they figure out if the guy was mentally ill? What was his motive? Maybe there is more to the story but as of now, it’s pretty sad.”

“It all comes down to security and the lack of it. This man came with intentions to kill and received no consequences? That’s ridiculous to me. They should install more cameras and have heightened sense of wariness. If killers know they can kill with no repercussions, it’s going to be a serious problem in the future,” said the Senior student, Justin Kim.

There are still no updates on the families of the victims nor any news regarding the suspect, and justice to the mourning families will not be delivered until this crime is solved.
